The security director for Oakland Mall stands accused of stealing from a handful of stores.
Troy police said Jeffrey Douglas Maul, 36, was caught on camera taking about $300 in cash from a register at Manic Shoes.
When questioned by police, Maul admitted to being responsible for the shoe store theft and four others -- two at Bosco's Barber Shop and one at President Tuxedo and Orange Julius.
He was arraigned Wednesday on charges of breaking and entering and larceny in a building.
His next court date is April 30.
Maul worked for Prudential Security, they issued this statement to Local 4:
Prudential Security provides security services to Oakland Mall in Troy, Mich., and employs the security manager who was accused of theft at Oakland Mall.
First and most importantly, we would like to stress that this is an internal matter that does not and will not impact the safety and security of shoppers or staff at Oakland Mall. At no time were Oakland Mall patrons or employees in harm’s way. Oakland Mall is a family-friendly and safe place to shop. This was an isolated, internal incident.
While monitoring security footage, a Prudential Security employee witnessed the alleged theft in progress and contacted the Troy Police Department who subsequently arrested the suspect. The suspect has been terminated by Prudential Security.
At Prudential Security, our officers undergo rigorous screening and training. The individual in question underwent and passed multiple background checks and screenings at the state and federal level.
We are looking into the details of the incident and cooperating fully with law enforcement. We cannot provide more information at this time because the Troy Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
