Oakland University police investigate sexual assault report

Police say this stemmed from meeting on social media site

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland University Police Department is investigating the report of a sexual assault that happened between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. Oct. 8 on the main campus in Rochester.

According to the report, the incident took place in West Vandenberg Hall. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male with dark brown hair, approximately 20 years old, standing 6 feet tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds.

The complainant met the suspect on a social media website, police said. An arrest has not been made in the incident.

In September, a similar incident was reported. Police said the alleged incident happened in a car near the Ann V. Nicholson Student Apartments at about 6 p.m. on Sept. 8. They say the suspect and the victim had met online.

"Always take a friend the first time if you're going to meet an individual," said Oakland University Police Chief Mark Gordon. "Also, meet in a public place. Go out to a public place where other people are around and also make sure you have an exit strategy."
