DETROIT -

President Barack Obama plans to sign the new farm bill Friday at Michigan State University.

The nearly $1 trillion farm bill received final approval on Tuesday from the Senate, which sent the compromise already passed by the House to President Obama to be signed into law.

"The President will see firsthand the research that institutions like MSU are doing to create jobs and drive innovation that benefits farmers, ranchers, our rural communities, and our nation as a whole. Following his remarks, the President will sign the Agriculture Act of 2014 into law."
