John Doss charged with reckless driving causing death

LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – A Wayne County sheriff's deputy was charged Friday in connection with a deadly car crash in Lincoln Park, officials announced.

John Doss, 36, is accused of crashing into a car on Oct. 23, 2016, and fatally injuring a 56-year-old Lincoln Park man.

Officials said Doss was driving his truck around 10:25 p.m. Oct. 23 while off duty at Dix Highway and Detroit Avenue when he crashed into a car.

Henry Lowe was riding in the front passenger seat of the car, which was being driven by his friend. Lowe was seriously injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital. He died Oct. 24 from his injuries.

Investigators said Doss was driving over the speed limit at the time of the crash.

Doss is charged with reckless driving causing death, which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

Officials said Doss will turn himself in Monday. He is expected to be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Lincoln Park.
