A Southfield officer saved a dog's life Wednesday after the 11-year-old terrier mix was found in a house fire.
Southfield firefighters and Robert White, an Animal Control officer, responded to 28211 Sutherland Street after reports of a house fire. The terrier was found inside the house and White took the dog to a veterinary hospital.
While White was driving, the dog stopped breathing and collapsed. He pulled the vehicle over and performed rescue breathing on the dog on the side of the road. The dog began breathing on its own again.
When he reached the veterinary hospital the dog was put in an oxygen chamber. The terrier, whose name is Valentino, is recovering and expected to return Friday.
