DETROIT – Snowfall is the last piece of the puzzle that is measured the old fashion way.
Josh Halasy is the man taking the official snow measurements at Detroit Metro Airport away from the planes and the sound of engines. Halasy goes out and measures the snow four times a day for the National Weather Service. He had no idea he could possibly be measuring history.
Halasy says when the winds are as high as they were on Wednesday, snow measurements are harder to take rather than on a day when the wind is not as strong. After determining how much snow fell by using a 40-inch measuring stick, Halasy measures what was left from the previous snowfall.
He measures the snow in multiple areas where foot prints are not present.
The official snow measurement should be known soon.
