Old Detroit Free Press building to be auctioned

300,000 square-foot building constructed in 1925 to be auctioned

DETROIT – The old Detroit Free Press building on Lafayette Boulevard -- just down the boulevard from Local 4's studio -- will go up for auction Sept. 9.

Local 4 toured the inside of the long-empty building on Wednesday night.

It is 16 stories tall and more than 300,000 square feet. It was built in 1925 and was designed by Albert Kahn.

The building could be used for residential or other purposes.

Bidding on the Free Press building starts at zero dollars.
