2014: The MV Sewol ferry carrying 476 people capsizes near Jindo Island off South Korea, ultimately leaving 304 passengers and crew dead. The captain and other crew members were later convicted of murder and abandoning ship, while ferry company owner Yoo Byung-eun, who had been the subject of an intense manhunt, was found dead in a field in July 2014.
