2014: Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old black man in Ferguson, Missouri, is shot and killed by a white police officer during a confrontation. Police later identified the officer as 28-year-old Darren Wilson. In November of 2014, a grand jury decided not to indict Wilson for Brown's shooting, spurring protests and unrest in Ferguson and nationwide. Wilson resigned from the Ferguson police force on Nov. 29.
