Organization that helps families of homicide victims needs donations

DETROIT – An organization that provides Christmas gifts for metro Detroit children who are affected by homicide has had to cancel its party this year because of a lack of donations.

For the past two years, the organization Mothers of Murdered Children has held "A Never Forgotten Christmas" for children who have lost a parent to homicide.

Party organizer Brenda Miller said donations in past years have filled a storage unit, but this year, there's not nearly enough.

"It's disappointing. We try to give the kids Santa Claus or Christmas that they wouldn't ordinarily have," Miller said.
