Parents outraged over daycare swaddling punishment

Davison day care received citation from state

DAVISON, Mich. – A photo has gone viral showing a Michigan 2-year-old boy swaddled at a daycare.

This photo was allegedly taken at the Rainbow Child Care Center in Davison in June and sent to parents Jason and Rebecca Vannest.

WNEM TV5 talked to the parents who were alarmed by the photo.

Jason Vannest told the station, "We had a contact from a worker at Rainbow who had a great concern about the care that he was being provided."

The couple said they were told 2-year-old William was being physically bound for naps and it had happened for several months.

In a statement to TV5, Rainbow Child Care said:

"Regarding any situation involving current and former employees, or current and former families, for the purpose of confidentiality, we don't discuss it."

The Vannests filed a police report and confirm that the Department of Health and Human Services interviewed workers and families as part of its investigation.

In the end, the agency cited the day care center for wrongdoing for "restricting William's movement during nap time." The exact punishment is unknown due to confidentiality.

TV5 also confirmed that Davison Township Police Department conducted its own investigation, but the county prosecutor has not moved forward with a case.

The Vannests are keeping William out of daycare.
