Pittsfield Township hit-and-run crash turns into pot bust

Off-duty deputy followed driver home after smash-up

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A hit-and-run crash turned into a drug bust Saturday after an off-duty Washtenaw County Sheriff's Deputy followed the driver home Pittsfield Township.

Police said the 29-year-old driver was involved in a fender-bender near Michigan Avenue and Platt Road.  After the crash, an off-duty deputy spotted the vehicle and followed it to the Saline Meadows manufactured home community.

Pittsfield Township police were called to the home and learned the man did not have a  driver's license.  After questioning him further, they began searching his home.  Officers found $2,000 in cash and five pounds of marijuana. 

Investigators said they believe the man was intending to sell the drugs.
