PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Plymouth Township police are looking for whoever stole $36,000 and more than $15,000 in jewelry from an elderly couple's home last week.

Police said the couple was approached on May 24 by a man at their home in the 10000 block of Canton Center Road who said he was sent by the homeowners association to do work in the common area of their home.

The couple went with the man to their backyard, where he talked with them for about 15 minutes.

Police said the man answered a cell phone several times, telling the caller he was still with the couple. He eventually left and the couple continued on with yard work.

It wasn't until two hours later that they discovered the money had been taken from a safe and the jewelry was missing.
