Plymouth Twp. teen who admitted to family murder plot drops motion to withdraw guilty plea

Roksana Sikorski sentenced to 10-20 years in prison

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 17-year-old Plymouth Township girl who admitted to planning to kill her family has dropped a motion to withdraw her guilty plea, officials said.

Roksana Sikorski pleaded guilty to one count of assault with intent to commit murder in exchange for other counts being dismissed. She was sentenced in March 2016 to 10-20 years in prison and is being housed at the Huron Valley Correctional Facility for Women in Ypsilanti.

Sikorski later said she wanted to withdraw her guilty plea, and a motion seeking resentencing was filed late last year by her appellate attorney. Now she is withdrawing that motion.

Sikorski used a knife to cut her 12-year-old brother's neck and tried to stab her younger sister on Oct. 17, 2014, in their Plymouth Township home. According to Sikorski -- who was 15 at the time of the crimes -- and the prosecution, her then-boyfriend, 23, Michael Rivera, was outside the house sending text messages to her with instructions on how to fatally stab her family members.

Sikorski and Rivera were both charged with assault with intent to murder and conspiracy to premeditated murder.

At her daughter's sentencing, Laurene Sikorski made a final plea for a judge to grant her mercy.

"Nothing will benefit this child by sending her to jail. She made some poor choices that led her to this conviction," she said.

Sikorski was adopted from Poland by Laurene and Jeff Sikorski, who also adopted her brother and sister, have said she should not have been tried as an adult.

"How will sentencing her as an adult help her? Is this justice?" Laurene Sikorski said.

The text messages

As the evidence was laid out in court before the two were bound over for trial, Local 4 obtained some of the text messages that the two exchanged on the night of the attack. They include instructions on how to slit a throat and are peppered with emoticons.

"Babe I can't do it :( I need ur help," read a message that kicked off a stream of back-and-forth between Roksana Sikorski and Rivera.
