Police: 3-year-old boy assaulted in Melvindale; suspect in custody

MELVINDALE, Mich. – A 42-year-old Allen Park man was taken into custody for allegedly abusing a 3-year-old boy in Melvindale.

According to police, the man was watching the boy while the mother was at work. When she returned, the boy was hiding in a closet, police said. Authorities also said the boy was bleeding, had bruising on his back and a lump on his head.

The man is the mother’s ex-husband. Local 4 learned he has an extensive criminal record.

Police said the man confessed to some of the allegations but says it was an accident and they were playing.

The investigation is ongoing.
