Police chase ends in BMW rollover

BMW crashed into vacant home

DETROIT – A BMW X-5 SUV was carjacked and may have been used in several robberies before a police chase ended in a crash on Saturday.

The BMW was carjacked around 1 a.m. Sunday in the 20500 block of Buffalo Street.

Officers were informed about the stolen vehicle during roll call and spotted the vehicle on Detroit's northeast side. They watched the vehicle and waited for someone to get inside.

Police initiated a traffic stop and the 44 year-old driver of Oak Park sped off.

The BMW ran a red light at Hayes and Park Grove streets when it struck a Chevy Tahoe that was going south on Hayes Street.

The BMW rolled over several times before crashing into a vacant house.

The driver fled and police caught him after a foot chase over two blocks.

The driver was armed with a handgun and taken into custody.

The 52 year-old driver of the Tahoe had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
