DETROIT – When Ed Allen heard the gunshots last night near his southwest Detroit home he thought he was the target.
"I just hear two shots and that was it. I was just laying down watching TV and I heard the shots," he said.
Those shots were coming from a duplex in the 2800 block of Central Street. Police identified the 47-year-old man firing the shots as a Detroit firefighter. He's been with the department for more than 20-years.
They say he was aiming at two Detroit police officers and a security officer from his home alarm company. It all began when the house alarm went off and a security officer came to see if everything was OK.
Police say the firefighter pulled out a gun and told the security officer to "get the (expletive) out of here." The officer took cover and called 911.
Police don't know why the firefighter started firing shots once they arrived. Alcohol could've had something to do with it.
Police say he blew a .25 blood alcohol content.
Now, the fireman, who lives next door to a fire house, is off the job and in jail for firing shots at police.
"Sometimes he'd get in a bad mood when he'd be drinking, then he'd be nice," said Allen.
