Police find $70K worth of drugs in Berlin Township, Almont

Investigation finds psilocybin mushrooms, marijuana

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The St. Clair County Drug Task Force seized "the largest amount of psilocybin mushrooms in recent years" Wednesday night during an investigation in Berlin Township.

Authorities say there was also a "large amount" of marijuana found in the investigation.

According to Sheriff Tim Donnellon, the DTF's investigation found the drugs at home in the village of Almont and in the 13000 block of Masters Road in Berlin Township. The search warrant was conducted at around 11 p.m.

Authorities found about $25,000 worth of psilocybin mushrooms and about $45,000 worth of marijuana inside.

A 22-year-old man from Almont and two men from Berlin Township, ages 32 and 25, were arrested after the search. The three were taken to St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center.

All three are expected to face charges including delivery of marijuana, delivery of a schedule 1 controlled substance/psilocybin mushrooms, conspiracy to deliver a schedule 1 controlled substance, conspiracy to deliver marijuana, delivery of a controlled substance in a school zone and maintaining a drug house.

"This was a long, arduous investigation," Donnellon said. "The result is the St. Clair County Drug Task Force has taken a large amount of illegal narcotics off the streets of our community. I am proud of the continuous effort put forth by the DTF and assisting agencies to help make our county safer for everyone."

Police also seized a gun, cash, drug paraphernalia, drug packaging materials and a car.
