Police: Gunmen rob group walking home in Grosse Pointe Park

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – Diane Dann work and lives in Grosse Pointe Park.

She loves this community and feels safe living here.

"I have been here for over 20 years, never had any problems. I have been working here for over 20 years," she said.

She was surprised to hear what happened over the weekend. Police say a group walking home early Sunday morning after a night out was robbed at gunpoint by two men at Maryland and Vernor Highway.

The men got away with purses, a wallet and iPhones. The victims were not hurt.

Walking in a group didn't stop the robbers from targeting them. Police say the two women and one man did the right thing by cooperating with the robbers.

Police are calling it an isolated incident.

Neighbors say it's scary that it happened here but they know crime has no boundaries.

"Obviously nervous, apprehensive, because it doesn't happen in this area very often. You hear about it on the outskirts along Mack and Alter area," said Alan Rice, who lives in Grosse Pointe Park.

Dann said she always takes the necessary precautions to stay safe.

"I don't walk late at night and I am aware of my surroundings. I am always looking around making sure. I am a local girl so I like to know what's going on in my neighborhood," said.
