Police identify man beaten in Warren

WARREN, Mich.

Warren police have identified a man they found over the weekend nearly beaten to death..

The 58-year-old man was identified through fingerprinting.

Police were notified early Sunday morning that a man was lying in the road in the area near Toepher and Ryan roads.

"He’s got some really serious injuries," said Commissioner Jere Green of the Warren Police Department. "We’re kind of investigating this right now as an assault, maybe a robbery. He had no ID on him at the time."

Police were able to track down some surveillance video of the man at a Family Dollar less than half a mile away.

"He did have a pack of Talon sweet filtered cigars, which is kind of an off-brand and unusual kind of cigar," Green said. "Our detectives went online and found that they were sold in only two places in Warren."

The man is currently at Beaumont Hospital in intensive care. Police said his eyes are swollen shut and he is in critical condition.
