Police: man fatally shot in rifle accident

Friends, family cleaning out home of deceased relative when rifle found in closet

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police say a 41-year-old man is dead after a loaded rifle discovered while cleaning out a house went off accidentally.

Friends and family were cleaning out the home of a recently deceased relative Saturday afternoon.

The man found a M1 Carbine in a closet of the home in Macomb County's Clinton Township

The rifle went off and the man was shot in neck. He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead

Police and prosecutors ruled the shooting as an accident.

The name of the man who died wasn't immediately released.
