Police out in force for Dream Cruise

It's an enormous event that puts a strain on local law enforcement to keep everyone safe. The Dream Cruise brought thousands of people to Woodward Avenue with no major problems Saturday.

Logistics are a challenge, but as the largest car event in world, there were eight police departments with 16 miles to cover.

For Dream Cruise fans, it's all about the classic cars, but for police, they're all about keeping the event a safe family event.

Shutting down an event of the Cream Cruise's size is a coordinated effort. First, police close every intersection on Woodward from 8 Mile to Pontiac.

At the same time, three squads are sent out simultaneously along the route.

Finally, police on motorcycles get spectators to pack up and head out.

Incredibly, most of Woodward Avenue is reopened within an hour of the event ending.

About 400 police officers from different departments keep the largest car event in the world a safe one for the million or so people who attend.
