Police search for man in connection with boy, 4, killed

DETROIT – Police are looking for a man in connection to the shooting death of his 4-year-old grandson on Detroit's west side.

Harvey Whitcher is just one of the victim's family members to face charges following the shooting. The child's grandmother and step-grandfather are already behind bars in connection with the child's death.

Whitcher faces involuntary manslaughter and felony firearm charges for his role in the boy's death.

The victim's grandmother, Patricia Johnson Richardson, and her husband Robert Richardson were both in court Sunday, also facing a number of charges.

Investigators said the child was in the care of his grandparents when he was accidentally shot and killed by his 4-year-old cousin. All paternal grandparents have had several run-ins with police over the years.

Sunday night friends and family gathered to remember the young boy, whose life was cut short.

Now, as some family members prepare for a funeral, others get ready for another court appearance while Whitcher remains in hiding.
