Police search for Metro Detroit identity thieves

Police say man, woman steal identities, max out credit cards at Metro Detroit stores

NOVI, Mich. – Police are searching for a man and woman who, they say, have been hard at work shopping and spending others' money around Metro Detroit.

Most victims don't have a clue it's happening, police say.

The man and woman have been spotted buying big-ticket items at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Sears, Home Depot and furniture stores such as Art Van and Gardner White. They have been ripping people off in Grosse Pointe Shores, Green Oak Township, Novi, Northville and Farmington. Police say they are stealing identities and creating fake driver's licenses. Then, they open charge accounts at the stores.

The thieves buy up everything they can, maxing out the credit cards. They have been spotted in a burgundy Chevrolet GMC van.

Police say, so far, about 12 people have been victimized. The couple has racked up about $60,000 worth of charges.

Anyone with information on the man and woman is asked to call police.
