Hoax call led to police standoff in Grosse Pointe Park

No one hurt, no hostage, police chief says

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – Grosse Pointe Park police released the couple involved in an early morning standoff Thursday after an investigation confirmed they had nothing to do with the call that lead to the incident.

Grosse Pointe Park Director of Public Safety David Hiller said they received a call just after 5 a.m. to report that there was a woman dead in the home on Lakepointe Street and a gunman was holding two hostages.

A SWAT team responded, and after about 45 minutes, the man and a woman came out of the house peacefully, Hiller said.

Hiller said there was no one dead in the home and no hostages.

Police believe the incident was the result of so-called Swatting, a fraudulent emergency call intended to trick authorities into deploying SWAT teams or other special police units.
