Police: Suspicious backpack at People Mover station posed no threat

Station closed while DPD investigated backpack

A downtown Detroit People Mover station was closed Saturday while police invstigated a suspicious backpack, which turned out to pose no threat.

DETROIT – Detroit police blocked off a portion of Grand Circus Park Saturday afternoon to investigate a suspicious package.

A backpack was found next to trash container near the Grand Circus stop of the downtown People Mover.

The station was closed for an hour and a half, while the Detroit Tigers were playing the Los Angeles Angels at nearby Comerica Park.

People Mover trains continued to run, but did not stop at the Grand Circus station during the investigation.

Police determined the backpack posed no threat. Investigators found identification inside the back, and were working to locate the owner.

The People Mover station was able to return to service.
