Police: Teens beat 55-year-old Hamtramck man in street

'The Cat Man' in critical condition after attack Saturday night on Danforth Street

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. A 55-year-old Hamtramck man, affectionately known in the community as "The Cat Man," was beaten by two teenagers about 11 p.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of Danforth Street, in the middle of the street, not far from where he lives.

The Hamtramck police chief says Nick Vanasnack is in critical condition at Detroit Receiving Hospital. The two teens, 13 and 14 years old, are in custody.

Vanasnack is known for taking care of all the stray cats in the area. He has lived in Hamtramck for a long time.

The teens are being held in juvenile detention.
