Cassis, 68, of Novi, has now announced her plans for candidacy.

"When Thad McCotter failed to make the ballot, I answered the call to be the conservative voice for the citizens of the 11th Congressional district by mounting a write-in campaign," Cassis said. "Now that McCotter has resigned and the election has been called, I want to make sure the citizens of this district have the representation they deserve for the remainder of this term. I know I can make a difference by fighting for conservative principles: working to create Michigan jobs, fighting to repeal ObamaCare, and reining in excessive government spending."
State election officials estimate the cost of the special election to total $650,000 for the impacted local and county governments.
