NO SUPER NECESSARY
--LEAD IN --
The 113th congress is sworn in today but will it be less divisive as the last? Or will these members have to deal with the same old problems? Sandra Endo has more on the new Congress and their agenda.
--REPORTER PKG-AS FOLLOWS --
the house will come to order
IT MAY BE A NEW CONGRESS..
This is the first time in history that the Democratic Caucus in the House will be made up of a majority of women, minorities and members of the LGBT community
BUT ON THEIR AGENDA: OLD PROBLEMS.
FOR ONE, RELIEF FOR HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS.
HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER DIDN'T PUT IT TO A VOTE TUESDAY, STIRRING UP OUTRAGE.
BUT BOEHNER WAS REELECTED SPEAKER.
I present ... is duly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.
WITH THE LOOMING DEBT CEILING CRISIS, LAWMAKERS HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO CUT SPENDING, WHICH HAS PROVED NOT TO BE AN EASY TASK WITH PARTISAN POLITICS AT PLAY.
we have to be able to take that common ground. we all agree we've got to deal with the national debt, we've got to deal with our deficit.
the president needs to show up early this time. The American people will not tolerate the kind of last minute crisis that we have seen again and again over the last four years
DESPITE POTENTIAL FISCAL FIGHTS BREWING AHEAD, PRESIDENT OBAMA IS EVEN TRYING TAMP DOWN THE PARTISANSHIP AND OFFERED THIS AS A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION.
i think hopefully in the new year we'll focus on is seeing if we can put a package like this together with a little bit less drama, a little bit less brinksmanship.
IN WASHINGTON, I'M SANDRA ENDO.
