Washington (CNN) -

Two senior Democratic Party officials tell CNN that President Barack Obama will ask Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida to stay on for a second term as chair of the Democratic National Committee.

The DNC meets in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 22, the day after the president's second inauguration, for its annual winter meetings. The top thing on the agenda at the gathering is to vote on the chair and other party officials for the next two years.

Wasserman Schultz replaced former Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine as DNC chair in the spring of 2011, after Kaine stepped down to run for the U.S. Senate.
