Attorney says subpoenas have been delivered in Detroit financial review team legal challenge

Drew Paterson says subpoenas were given to Detroit mayor, council members

DETROIT – The attorney for an activist who is legally challenging the state-appointed financial review team for Detroit told Local 4 on Monday that subpoenas had been obtained and delivered to city leaders in connection with the case.

Attorney Drew Paterson said the subpoenas were for leaders such as Detroit Mayor Dave Bing, Detroit City Councilman Charles Pugh, councilman Gary Brown and the mayor's chief financial officer and chief of staff.

Paterson said those individuals are witnesses to illegal activity conducted by the 10-member review team and Michigan Treasurer Andy Dillon.

Paterson's client, activist Robert Davis, has challenged the team's closed meetings in court and Ingham County Circuit Judge William Collette has ruled that the team must comply with Michigan's Open Meetings Act.

Paterson says it's possible the review team maybe violating Collette's order and could face contempt charges.
