DETROIT -

Tuesday is election day across Michigan. Several issues affecting Metro Detroit residents are on the ballot including the Detroit mayoral race.

The two men facing off for Detroit mayor have similar visions for the city: better neighborhoods, less crime and no state oversight.

Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon and former Detroit Medical Center chief Mike Duggan are the two candidates in Tuesday's election. Both say a state-appointed emergency manager should leave and allow the new mayor to fix Detroit's finances.
Kevyn Orr was hired in March on an 18-month contract. In July, he made Detroit the largest U.S. city to file for bankruptcy. Bankruptcy attorney Kenneth Schneider says whoever is elected should focus on working with Orr to right the city's finances.

Duggan is the front-runner. He waged an aggressive write-in campaign after getting booted from the primary ballot and received 48,700 votes to Napoleon's 28,300. Napoleon's name was on the primary ballot.

Other issues facing Metro Detroit voters

Detroit City Council: For the first time in almost 100 years, City Council candidates are running in districts.  Districts number one is located in north west Detroit. The next seven districts are then assigned clockwise when looking at a map of Detroit.

Prop A in Royal Oak:An ordinance to amend the code of the City of Royal Oak to prohibit discrimination based upon actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, height, weight, condition of pregnancy, marital status, physical or mental limitation, source of income, family responsibilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status, and to provide penalties for the violation thereof.

Janice Daniels is running for Troy City Council. Daniels joined the race for Troy City Council after being recalled from her position as Troy mayor. She was elected mayor in 2011 and recalled in November 2012. Daniels was recalled after being criticized for an anti-gay slur and for opposing a largely federally funded transportation center.

There are also several millage requests across southeast Michigan. For a complete list of the issues, the candidates and where to find results be sure to check out the Decision 2013 page of ClickOnDetroit.com.
