DETROIT – Power was restored at about 11 a.m. on Wednesday to parts of Detroit and Highland Park after a planned outage to help crews work on some lines.
DTE Energy Co. said power went out at 6 a.m. to an estimated 3,500 customers. The outage had been expected to last until 2 p.m.
Crews were working in the I-75 Freeway area, between 6 Mile and West State Fair; and between Dequindre and Woodward in Detroit and parts of Highland Park.

Extra officers patrolled the area during the outage.
Warming Centers:
The city of Detroit has designated three recreation centers at warming centers during the temporary outage:
- The Northwest Activity Center: 18100 Meyers Road. Detroit, MI 48235
- Butzel Family Center: 7737 Kercheval, Detroit, MI 48214
- Farwell Community Center: 2711 East Outer Drive, Detroit, MI 48234
For safety:
· Make sure to turn off or unplug major appliances, computers and other electronic equipment to prevent damage when power is restored.
· Open faucets slightly so they can constantly drip to prevent pipes from freezing
· Keep portable heaters at least 5 feet away from furniture, drapes and other flammable materials
· Heaters that burn fuel need proper ventilation to prevent buildup of harful fumes
· Never use a gas range for heating or charcoal as an indoor heating or cooking source
· Some alarm systems may be affected by the outage
