Two Detroit men who are charged with the beating of a driver after he collided with their car while going the wrong way on a city street were in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.

The hearing was waived, and the arraignment for both men is scheduled for July 22.

Demond Williams, 33, and Toriano Williams, 20, are facing charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and aggravated assault. Demond Williams also is charged with having an expired driver's license.

Nate Szczerbinski of Grosse Pointe Park said he was attacked by the two near Vernor Highway and Chalmers Street. Szczerbinski is white and told police several black men beat him and called him racially derogatory names.

"They called me a white b**** and then the driver was like, 'I don't care if I just got out of jail, I'm gonna keep hitting you, I don't care,'" Szczerbinski told Local 4 during an interview.
