Proposal for a $919 million elevated rail system among ideas for reusing former GM plant site
Elevated rail system to connect Willow Run Airport to Detroit Metropolitan Airport
A proposal for a $919 million elevated rail system to connect Willow Run Airport to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport is among ideas for reusing the site of a former General Motors plant.
Justin Sutton, founder and managing partner of The Interstate Traveler Co., tells AnnArbor.com he wants to use the former Willow Run powertrain plant in Washtenaw County's Ypsilanti Township to build components and rail cars for the system.
Word of the proposal comes after it was announced this week the Yankee Air Museum launched a $6 million campaign to make its new home at part of the Willow Run facility that was built by Ford Motor Co. to produce the B-24 bomber during World War II.
Sutton says he supports the museum's idea as well.
