DETROIT – Protestors gathered Tuesday morning in northeast Detroit calling for the city to keep four libraries open.
The libraries are being closed this week because of a decline in both funding and usage.

Outside the Lincoln Library, which is on 7 Mile Road just east of I-75, protestors said the library is an important part of the community.
"This is important really for the future of this whole neighborhood. If this library is closed, if all of the books and computers and tables and chairs are removed, we're going to have a place that has served as a safe house be turned into a drug house," said Shanta Driver, national chair for By Any Means Necessary.
Besides Lincoln, the other libraries slated to close are the Mark Twain, Richards and Monteith branches.
