Push to ban racial terms in Michigan legislature

LANSING, Mich. – The House of Representatives has voted to ban the words "colored persons" and "white persons" in Michigan legislature.

The bill specifically targets insurance code, aiming to eliminate any racial bias in setting insurance rates.

 

Violating this law would result in fines ranging from $500 to $10,000.

 

The bill passed by a unanimous vote of 160 to 0, and now awaits Gov. Rick Snyder's signature.
