RECAP: 'White Boy' Rick Wershe parole hearing

Richard Wershe Jr. had a 4-hour parole board hearing Thursday to decide if he will have the chance to be released from prison. 

Wershe, nicknamed "White Boy," is serving a life sentence in prison since he was convicted of possessing more than 650 grams of cocaine in 1988. He has spent the past 29 years behind bars as a nonviolent juvenile offender.

His fight for freedom has gained national attention. There is a Hollywood movie about it scheduled to premier next year.

The Michigan Parole Board held the parole hearing Thursday in Jackson to determine whether he will be released.

No decision will be announced until July, at the earliest, but key testimony was heard from Wershe and his attorneys.
