Red Wings fans hit the Joe for HockeyFest

DETROIT – Though we still have a few more days of summer, it does feel like fall outside in Hockeytown. Die-hard Wings fans say it is not too early for hockey.

"It's never too early for hockey," said Debbie Valla, a fan from St. Clair.

Valla and her husband, Bryan, came to HockeyFest from their home in St. Clair. They're not just ready for hockey, they're ready for Red Wings hockey.

The Wings throw open the doors of the Joe for HockeyFest and $20 will let fans get collectables signed by players.

Those who attend HockeyFest get to meet some of the Wings and walk through the team's dressing room. Kids can play games on the arena floor and sit behind the wheel of a Zamboni.

Gordon and Mary Ann Everson drove 10 hours to bring their grandkids to the event. Their last name is Niquist, no relation to Gustav. That's the kind of loyalty and love the Red Wings have built throughout the years with fans from along the Detroit River, all the way to Ironwood.
