Residents jump from burning apartment building in Detroit

Thursday fire at Weaver Street near Southfield Freeway

DETROIT – Residents of an apartment building on Detroit's west side could be seen jumping from the second floor of the building to escape the burning building.

The fire at 18250 Weaver Street - near the Southfield Freeway - broke out just after 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

The 2 alarm fire started on the second floor and quickly spread to the third floor of the building.

Three people jumped to safety - but were not hurt. Two people suffered minor injuries from broken glass.

Detroit firefighters evacuated approximately 20 people from the apartment building while battling flames at the same time.

The American Red Cross was on scene with busses to help keep the displaced residents warm.
