5-Year-Old's Body Found Burned In Abandoned Detroit House

DETROIT – A $2,500 reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers in an effort to track down who is responsible for the death of a 5-year-old Detroit girl.

Mariah Smith was reported missing July 24 from her home on Burlingame Street. A body matching her description was found just hours later a mile away in an abandoned house after an arson fire was put out. The body was confirmed to be Smith's through DNA.

Shortly before Smith's body was discovered on July 24, a man, shown in a gas station surveillance video, bought $20 worth of gas, but only pumped 41 cents worth into a beer can. Police said they want to identify the man because he's suspected of helping set the girl's body on fire to cover up her killing.

Investigators said Mariah's aunt failed a lie detector test, but no charges have been pressed.
