Road Commission for Oakland County to hold public meeting

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – Have an idea about which county roads should be widened or otherwise improved over the next 25 years? If so, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) invites you to its 2040 Long-Range Transportation Plan public input meeting on Dec. 5.

The meeting will run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will take place in the first floor meeting room of the Southfield Public Library, 26300 Evergreen Road, Southfield, MI 48076.

Anyone interested can offer input at any time during the meeting (you don't need to be present the entire time).

At the meeting, RCOC staff members will explain the long-range transportation-planning process, which is mandated by state and federal laws, and receive public input. There will not be a formal presentation.

The Long-Range Transportation Plan, which is updated every five years, is intended to be a "blueprint" for transportation planning in the county. In addition to RCOC roads, the Long-Range Transportation Plan also includes projects on eligible roads under the jurisdiction of many Oakland County cities and villages. Federal funds can only be used on road projects listed in the plan.

Once RCOC has completed its 2040 road-improvement list, it will be submitted to the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) for approval and will then become part of the 2040 Regional Transportation Plan.

"It is vitally important that the public participate in this process," stated RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar. "This is a key opportunity to help shape the future of our county."

In addition to attending this public meeting, anyone can offer input into the Long-Range Transportation Plan via the Web, e-mail, phone call or letter.

A draft of the plan can be viewed and comments submitted at http://www.oaklandFAC.org/rtp.

E-mails and phone calls should be directed to RCOC's Department of Customer Services (DCS) at dcsmail@rcoc.org or 877-858-4804.

Written comments should be mailed to:
