It's an hour or so before the Homecoming pep rally and all the girls on the Rochester High School homecoming court are getting ready, including Emily Jacobs.

"I feel beautiful," Jacobs said.

Jacobs is a senior who is in about every school group imaginable. She's known to all, and a friend to many. She also has Down syndrome.

"She is a ball of sunshine," Emily's friend, Ludovic Clavette-Lachapelle, said. "Every time she walks into a room she smiles and makes my day."

Jacobs is a class favorite, so it only makes sense she would be in the homecoming court. So the RHS senior class created a Twitter movement to get her in, and it worked: #voteforemily.

"I never imagined this would happen," Emily's mother Cheryl Jacobs said. "It's an overwhelming show of support. It's very heartwarming."

At the assembly Thursday, you could see the girl they call "sunshine" beaming from ear to ear.

"I feel very special," Emily said.

What does it mean to her mother that her daughter was voted in by her peers?

"It shows kindness loving, acceptance," Cheryl said.

Emily got the biggest ovation at the assembly. She'll have to wait until the Homecoming game Friday night to see if she is named queen.
