Rochester Hills man gets life in prison for murdering elderly parents

Jeffrey Maurer convicted of 1st degree murder in January beating deaths of parents

PONTIAC, Mich. – A Rochester Hills man was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for the brutal murders of his parents in their home this past January.

Jeffrey Maurer, 55, was convicted of first degree murder for using hammers and a tea kettle to beat his 87-year-old father and 85-year-old mother to death.

The bodies of William Maurer and Gayle Maurer were found Jan. 19 in the garage of their home on East Maryknoll by deputies who had gone to check on them when their daughter reported not being able to get ahold of them.

"Clearly, from the testimony in this case, they supported you and took care of you your entire life. Your actions a reprehensible and a shock to the community," said Judge Colleen O'Brien.

Maurer also was ordered to pay $73,724.72 in restitution.

Despite a history of substance abuse and mental illness, Maurer was ruled mentally competent to stand trial.
