ROSEVILLE, Mich. – A bicyclist who was struck by a sports utility vehicle Friday afternoon when she was crossing Congress Street at 12 Mile Road in Roseville has been identified by family.
The teen bicyclist was left in critical condition and Roseville police were working to identify her.
She was identified Saturday as a 15-year-old girl from St. Clair Shores. Police say she was on her way to a baby sitting job and was not expected home until late Friday evening. Her mother was notified by the victim's grandmother who saw her picture on the morning news.
Both the mother and grandmother were going to the hospital to be with the girl.
Police say the teen was struck about 3:30 p.m. when a driver making a left turn from eastbound 12 Mile Road to northbound Congress Street failed to see her. She was thrown from the bike, hit the sports utility vehicle which had struck her and was thrown another 15 feet. She suffered multiple injuries, police said.
She is at a nearby hospital with swelling in her brain. No one at the crash knew her identity.
Police released a photo of the bike she was riding.
