Roseville police searching for man who tried to abduct 14-year-old girl

ROSEVILLE, Mich. – Detectives in Roseville are searching for a man accused of trying to abduct a 14-year-old girl on her way home from school.

The girl didn't know the man, so she got away from the situation. She was just dropped off when he tried to get her into a minivan.

I'll tell you what, I hope they catch him," said neighbor Matha Chapman. "I'll keep an eye out."

Neighbors are understandably disturbed to hear that someone tried to abduct a young girl in broad daylight.

"It scares me," said Breanna Kach. "I don't want anything to happen to them, obviously."

The girl walked less than two blocks after getting off the school bus. That's when the man drove up, used the girl's mom's name and said he was supposed to drop her off somewhere else.

Knowing better, the girl said no and took off.

Detectives are hoping for help from witnesses.

"Someone knows who this individual is, someone might recognize something," said Roseville police chief James Berlin. "Those tips will lead us to this individual."

Police are searching for a shorter white man with a full beard who is about 40 years old. He was wearing a gray hoodie and a black knit hat and driving an older, gray Ford minivan.

Anyone with information is asked to call Roseville police at 586-775-2100.
