The dog, nicknamed Courtney by rescuers, has needed several surgeries including the amputation of her leg. Rescuers said she chewed off her own paw to escape being chained up at another location about a week before being found behind the Walmart.

Courtney is in foster care while healing.

Surveillance video from the Walmart on Jan. 19 shows two men in a Chrysler 200 pulling behind the store, where they chained and left the dog. Walmart employees found the dog chained and freezing.

There is an active investigation underway to find the men in the video.

"There is enough clarity within the video to show that two black males got out, took the dog out, chained it to the fence, and then just drove off," said Roseville Police Chief James Berlin.
