ROYAL OAK, Mich. - A Royal Oak police K-9 is retiring.

The Police Department said Charlie, who joined the force in 2005, will now enjoy some home life after responding to about 1,350 service calls, making 460 narcotics finds, apprehending 44 fleeing criminals and helping seize about half a million dollars in drug forfeitures.

He also helped several other agencies about 300 times.

Charlie will enjoy his retirement with his handler's family -- Police Officer Zachary Nottle -- who will continue on regular patrol.
