Royal Oak police say 80-year-old found dead in her home

Nancy Maureen Dailey identified as victim

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Royal Oak police said an 80-year-old woman has been viciously killed in her home.

Police said Nancy Maureen Dailey was found dead Sunday evening by a cousin who had gone to check on her at her home on Trafford Street, which is near Woodward Avenue and 13 Mile Road.

Police said her hands had been bound behind her back and her throat was cut. They also said it appeared Dailey had struggled with her attacker and items were missing from her home.

Police said the crime likely happened between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and that a white SUV or minivan was seen on the street at the time of the incident. Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area at that time is asked to call the Royal Oak Police Department at 248-246-3500.

Neighbors Local 4 spoke with said the area is quiet and that Dailey was active in the community.

"She walked every day, she was active. You would see her walking in the summer and winter up and down the road here," said neighbor Bud Martin.
