Salt trucks disperse across metro Detroit

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Winter may be more than a month way, but much of the area is getting our first taste of what's to come.

It's not a lot of snow, but it's enough to wreak havoc on unsuspecting drivers.

Experts aren't forecasting the severe winter Detroit had last year, but all the snow did increase the price of salt. The Wayne County Road Commission shelled out more money, but they now have 50,000 tons of salt, with more on the way as needed.

Those who make a living on the road said this is one of the worst times of the year -- dealing with motorists who've forgotten how to drive in the snow

Wayne County engineers are reportedly in contact with the National Weather Service.  They have more than 100 salt trucks that can be deployed.
